My concentration is bugs and insects, this one was one of the pieces I did at Jesse Reno's workshop. I like how abstracted it is and that the bugs have horns. It's fun.

The first artist I chose was from the Pinterest page Kay Lipps. Her concentration was based off of a song.
I'm not sure how the images connect to the song because I have never heard the song but it is a verying interesting concentration. She drew people but abstracted them by cutting out the head or part of the head.
I liked the artist because I am thinking about using people in my concentration.
She used value really well and I liked how she incorporated torn pages into her art. She also used texture well in that way.
The next artist I used also has a blogger called: Don't MIS It
The concentration was focused on naturally occurring patterns.
The artist uses images of common and mostly overlooked things with pattern and abstracts the image so that it is on the pattern rather than what the image is an image of.The artist uses color, texture, and pattern extremely well.
The final artist I found was Katie Leimbach from the AP2D page last year. Her concentration was an abstraction of emotions I believe. To me it just seems like abstract colors and shapes with occasional doodled flowers.
She uses started with more simple images and towards the end her concentration became extremely detailed and cool.
She used color, texture, pattern, repitition, and shape all very well. I liked her concentration a lot because it was a very effective way to do abstract.

Haha, once again I forgot to do my blog comment on Sunday. I did twelve drawings this summer rather than take pictures so here are a few...

I gesso'd over the layered still life my class did in art 3 and then drew some poppies on top with pastels.
Old people hands...
And a peach because I'm obsessed with them

My two favorite pieces from the year!
Letter to future AP kids:
AP is a challenging class but it also very fun. You get to spend your time with kids who love art and watch their concentrations develop which was surprisingly one of the best things about AP. It is amazing to see how each person changes their concentration and it is and incredibly satisfying feeling to see your twelve works together at the end of the year. The best advice I can give it to first choose a concentration you can have fun with and enjoy. Second, is to use your class time well; if you do, you can get most of your work done.

Statement
The central idea of my concentration is an abstraction of landscapes towards shapes and colors.
My first and second images were simple images I took and then painted; i wanted to make the images more my own so in my next two images, the city and the power lines, I experimented in two directions. I chose to continue to turn my next paintings into blocks. My fifth image, the RV, was when i began to mix the more realistic painting of my first and second pieces with the cubism of my third piece. From that point on I blocked only part of my paintings, providing a unique take on landscapes.

I have been continuing my concentration of landscapes and playing with making them part blocky and part realistic. I like the look of this because it is unusual and I can focus on the color and shape in one part and then emphasize texture in clouds or water.
My last piece was frustrating because I tried playing with inverting the picture and changing its colors of the same picture three times. In theory this idea was good and it should have looked nice but I had a really hard time with the inverted one. It looked disconnected and unfinished in my opinion.
My next piece I plan on doing bigger because my pieces are all fairly small. What I can't decide is if I want to paint something similar to my bridge picture (top) which seems to be the favorite or if I want to continue with simple landscapes (bottom). I'm worried if i paint something with a man-made element it won't fit with my concentration of landscapes because it has an emphasis on the human part.
